To Honor Our Fallen Heroes (May 25, 2023)

Shortly after close of the Civil War that tore our countrymen and women apart, we came together as a nation at Arlington National Cemetery. It was there that General and Mrs. Ulysses S. Grant presided over the first ever Memorial Day ceremony with prayers and hymns for both Union and Confederate dead and their families. Despite our seeming division today, the people of our nation can be unified in their gratitude and remembrance of all those who have fallen in selfless sacrifice for people they never knew.

It is with a heavy heart and with grateful remembrance that Team Z feels the weight and importance of General Logan’s order which said: “We should guard their graves with sacred vigilance. ... Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent visitors and fond mourners. Let no neglect, no ravages of time, testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic.”

To our servicemen and woman who have died for us, and for the suffering their families have endured, we say that we have not forgotten. May God grant you peace in His loving embrace, and may we come together as an undivided republic in love and harmony to honor the gift of your great sacrifice.
