I’m white – so apparently, I’m racist.
I grew up with indoor plumbing whereas my father did not – so apparently, I’m a privileged white racist.
I believe that memorials to George Washington, our 1 st President and the General who lead us to Independence, should not be defaced or toppled – so apparently, I’m an ignorant privileged white racist.
Really? Is this what public discourse is to sound like? I am a human being. You are a human being. We are all made in God’s image. We should be proud of who we are, where we have come from, and where we have gone. Is there racism in America? There surely is. The Meriam-Webster Dictionary defines racism as “a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.” Calling someone racist because of their race is itself racist.
At Team Z we believe that the content of one’s character is what counts. We believe in celebrating peoples’ differences and also their similarities. We believe in honesty driven discussions about hate, not hate driven discussions without honesty. America is great because it has provided all of us the right to speak freely about our opinions, but with freedom comes responsibility. We owe it to each other to responsibly advocate so that others will listen. Force and hate never changes hearts.
Sincerely,
Justin R. Zinzow
