Land of the Free, Because of the Brave (May 22, 2025)

This coming Monday, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who laid down their lives for our country. We must never forget their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to the cause of freedom.

As we enjoy the freedoms they fought to protect, let us reflect on the true meaning of this day. It’s more than the start of summer, it’s more than a barbecue, beach time, or fireworks: it is a solemn reminder of the price paid for our liberty.

May we continually strive to be worthy of their sacrifice. May we live with heartfelt pride for our nation and a deep commitment to unity and service, as the Heroes we celebrate did. It has been said that real Heroes don’t wear capes: they wear combat boots and dog tags; but the Heroes we honor this Monday in May were cloaked in a cape more powerful and meaningful than any made-for-TV superhero cape. Our American Heroes were draped in the ultimate symbol of the freedom they died for – they lay beneath the American flag. There is no better cape, and no more worthy Hero to be draped in it.
