Hope of the World (November 10, 2022)

As an Englishmen once said, “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely;” a principle which holds true no matter what political party holds the most power. Our nation has completed a critical mid-term election deciding who our elected representatives will be over the next several years. As candidates, parties, and elected officials now declare themselves winners, the true winner is our republic. We the People cast our votes, and a balance of power has been restored. The genius of our democratic process and its mix of candidate winners and losers is that controlling authority cannot rest, for more than a short time, with any one person, party, or branch. Yet in the midst of the campaign rhetoric and political divisiveness, it is easy to forget that there are brave men and women who have defended America and her values to ensure our freedom of speech and the right to vote remain part of everyday American life. These men and women have been willing to sacrifice their time away from family, spend holidays abroad, and choose discomfort rather than peace at home to serve our nation. These men and women are those who have served in our United States Armed Forces, whom we remember on this Veterans Day.

Our Veterans have defended freedom in every part of the globe. These heroes have hiked the rugged terrain of Afghanistan and traversed the sands of Iraq; patrolled the great seas and endless skies; tore through the jungles of Vietnam; and crossed over Europe to ensure democratic governance, human rights, collective security, and the rule of law remain. Our Veterans are our protectors with diverse perspectives to share. They understand how deep American influence of peace through strength resonates throughout the world. Our Veterans are sober- minded, knowing the true cost to preserve these vital liberties. Our Veterans have survived the bloody battles abroad, yet their battle scars remain.

Team Z salutes those patriots who put their nation first. We admire their love of country in defending America, so she can remain as a beacon of inspiration for the world. Let us wave our American flags in jubilant celebration and sincere appreciation for the honor each member of the strongest fighting force on Earth deserves. Our Veterans’ sacrifices do not go unnoticed. These military heroes are the hope of a peaceful and better world.
